Overview of Sunkoshi Fishing Trip

If you’re looking to go on a fishing trip, you should definitely check out the 5-day Sunkoshi Fishing trip. Except for a few cases, the rapids in this river gradually become more complex. Hence, it suits first-time rafters or fishing enthusiasts who want to improve their kayaking/ rafting, and fishing skills. The river starts from the Tibetan border, passes through high mountains and valleys, down to the plains of Nepal, and into the mighty Ganges in India.

Further, for Sunkoshi fishing excursions, we will provide you with Nepal government-licensed river guides who have completed Red Cross first aid training. Our guides hold rafting certifications from the International Rafting Federation (IRF) and are trained as Whitewater Rescue Technicians (WRT). Be assured that you will be in our safe hands. Going to different Sunkoshi River fishing destinations will be no less than an adventure for you. And, since it is suitable for all age groups regardless of their expertise in outdoor activities, the trip is about giving the travelers the best of both worlds!

7 Days Sunkoshi Fishing Trip

Day 1: Arrival at Fewry Camp (268 m)

We drive to the put-in point from Kathmandu along with the raft, crew, and luggage. Cold lunch shall be prepared and served at the Fewry Camp. The rafting gear will be ready, and after lunch, we will start setting up our equipment. Then, we will start our rafting adventure. As we navigate the waves, we will paddle through the famous Harkapur I (legacy), Harkapur II (Class IV), and other exciting rapids. After some paddling, we will see Dudh Koshi, join Sun Koshi (the confluence).

Depending on the water levels, the rapids may or may not be runnable. We’ll make a careful group decision, as we always prioritize safety. Our campsite for the day will be at the beautiful Raighat beach for a much-needed rest and refreshment. Snacks and dinner will be served accordingly. So you can enjoy dinner and relax by the riverside for the night.

Day 2: Angling at Fewry Camp

Today, we will cast our line and enjoy angling in the tranquil waters around the Fewry Camp. After breakfast, we will gear up and enjoy a full day of catch-and-release fishing activity. We will relax, fish, and immerse ourselves in the peaceful riverside atmosphere. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner at our campsite and stay there overnight.

Day 3: Rafting at Rasuwaghat (501 m)

After breakfast, we will start rafting again and we will meet some exciting rapids such as Jaws Rapid (Class IV-), followed by the notorious “Dead Man Eddy”. The main highlight of this day’s rafting is the rapid “Rhino Rock” (Class IV). True to its name, this rapid looks like the horn of a rhinoceros. The way we pass this rapid depends on the level of water and the decision by the guide.

Fishing shall commence at 3 p.m. onwards (depending on the weather and distance covered). We can enjoy the evening, spending time by the sandy riverbanks, catch-and-release fishing, and unwinding by the river. We will set up our camp for the night at Rasuwaghat by the Sun Koshi riverside

Day 4: Rafting at Waterfall Camp

We will have breakfast at our campsite at Rasuwaghat. Then, we will pack up and raft towards Waterfall Camp. We will continue rafting down the river and enter tropical vegetation. The Sun Koshi becomes narrower, and we will pass through a region referred to as the “Jungle Corridor,” which is characterized by continuous rapids.

As we move ahead, we come across a series of unspoiled and serene waterfalls. Today’s camp will be near the Waterfall by the side of the Sun Koshi. Fishing shall commence at 3 p.m. onwards (depending on the weather and distance covered). Once again, we will conclude the adventurous day with an afternoon of fishing and enjoying the peaceful riverside setting.

Day 5: Angling at Waterfall Camp

After breakfast, we will enjoy another full day of catch-and-release fishing at our Waterfall Camp. The serene environment and pristine waters provide the perfect setting for fishing and relaxation. You will have dinner at camp and spend another night at Waterfall Camp.

Day 6: Rafting to Tribeni

Before we start our final rafting journey to Tribeni, we will have breakfast at Waterfall Camp and pack up. The waters of the Sun Koshi are calmer. We can relax as we pass through smaller waves. However, on the way, we will come across two exciting rapids – Big Dipper (Class IV), followed by Black Hole (Class III). Soon, Arun and Tamor mix with Sun Koshi at Tribeni (which means confluence of three rivers in Nepali). A total of seven rivers have now joined the Sun Koshi, and it is now called Sapta Koshi. Our camp for the day will be at Tribeni. This area features a lovely beach and is secluded from the nearby village. Also, a great fishing spot. Fishing shall commence at 3 p.m. onwards, depending on the weather and distance covered.

Day 7: Departure to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we will paddle to Chatara (approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour) – our final put-out point. From Chatara, your crew will head towards Biratnagar. Rafts and crew will return to Kathmandu in private transportation.
